Dennis Culver's Sketchjournal

Nrama: Dennis, for Edison Rex you’ve seemingly been designing new heroes and villains with each issue – sometimes entire teams all at once like the Warmongers and Teenpeace recently. What’s it like designing so many, so quickly?

Culver: For me it was just Tuesday.

New interview up with me and Roberson at Newsarama about Edison Rex.

Sometimes when I’m designing characters on a deadline I’ll open a page and make the size of my pen something huge so i can’t really do any detail work.

Then I just make silhouettes and play with the shapes of the characters. Once i find something I like I copy it and scale it up on another page and draw in details over the top of it until i’m happy with it.

Basically, I solve the big problems working small and then the small problems working big.

This issue is the origin of M’Alizz. Pick it up and spread the word.
