Multiversity Comics asked me to contribute to their 31 Days of Hellboy celebration and this is what I came up with.
They’ve had many excellent artists contribute work so far. Check it out:
You might also remember the piece I did for them last year for their 31 Days of Abe Sapien found here:
Pretty happy with both of them!
Also out this week from the House of Culver:

Dark Horse Presents #34 featuring Part 1 of
DAVEY JONES AND THE MYSTERY OF THE MONOCLE MEN
Story, words, and art by me, Dennis Culver
Colors by Sloane Leong
Letters by Christy Sawyer
Here’s the pitch:
The Mysterious Monocle Men are creeping around the town of Ishmael Bay kidnapping people including Sadie and Jackson’s grandfather. So they do what anyone would do in that situation: Put a message in a bottle asking undead ghost pirate Davey Jones for help. But will he answer their call?
(spoilers: He answers their call)
The piece I did for the Stan Sakai benefit auction is up for bidding:
ABOUT THE AUCTION: This is an auction conceived and organized by CAPS (Comic Art Professional Society) to help aid USAGI YOJIMBO creator Stan Sakai and his wonderful wife Sharon with increasing medical bills due to Sharon’s present debilitating illness.
You have until 11:59 EST on 3/10/2014 to get Edison Rex #1 for free
Comixology did a promotion all weekend at SXSW and gave away a bunch of comics.
There was a monkeybrain promo featuring TEN fir issues including Edison Rex
Redeem the code above at this link:
Been wanting to work a chessboxing ref into a comic for a long time.
I decided to remaster some of the art on the first issue of Edison Rex.
Mostly heads and hands in various panels. Getting the characters more on model with the rest of the series plus a new cover featured above.
Normally I don’t believe in going backwards on this kind of stuff but I realized that digital changes things in a pretty significant way. If someone decides they want to check out Edison Rex or any book digitally they’re not likely to pick up the latest issue. They’re going to start with the first one because it never sells out and is always on sale. So if that’s the case the first issue is always the first impression of the book and I figure it needs to look as good as I can make it.
So that’s what I did. It’s better looking and more cohesive with the rest of the series. You can still see the old pages floating around online, on the Pirate Bay, and in the print collection(although I imagine we’ll update it in future printings) if you want to compare.
If you’ve never read the book before then now is the best possible time to check it out:
Edison Rex 14 is out and available for download on Comixology!
Not only is the cover an homage to Love and Rockets but the whole dang comic is too! This issue contains several smaller stories exploring the relationships of some of Edison Rex’s supporting characters and interlock to tell a larger story that plays into everything we’ve seen in nearly every issue of Rex so far. It’s also the first appearance of 2014’s character of the year, HUMAN GARBAGE. All for less than a buck, Rexphiles.
I’m really proud of this one!
Nrama: Dennis, for Edison Rex you’ve seemingly been designing new heroes and villains with each issue – sometimes entire teams all at once like the Warmongers and Teenpeace recently. What’s it like designing so many, so quickly?
Culver: For me it was just Tuesday.
New interview up with me and Roberson at Newsarama about Edison Rex.
Looks like Edison Rex 14 is available for preorder on Comixology:
The issue goes on sale 2/26/2014
