Edison Rex #2 is now available for purchase on Comixology: http://www.comixology.com/Edison-Rex-2/digital-comic/DIG001826?app=1
Not only do you get 12 pages of comics for $0.99 but we’ve also included a bunch of bonus content called The REXfiles.
The REXfiles is a place where Edison Rex will talk about the enemies he faces, the equipment he uses and even the places he visits.
It’s not essential to the main story but it will definitely enhance it and you might find clues there about upcoming adventures too.

Enjoy this preview until then.

If you were at the Monkeybrain panel at San Diego Comicon last Friday I believe you got to see this cover for EDISON REX #2. Lines by me, colors by Stephen Downer and the logo was designed by Dylan Todd.
Since these issues of Edison Rex are digital only my philosophy is that they should be highly readable at the size they’ll be seen on Comixology and iTunes which is about 2 inches tall:

Subtle or busy just don’t cut it at that size. I imagine the eventual print collection cover to be a bit more elaborate.
You can buy the first issue of Edison Rex right now on Comixology while the second issue drops in August.

Here’s something for the process junkies. Edison Rex Page 1 from soup to nuts.

Chris and I tossed around a lot of ideas for the name of M’Alizz (pronounced Malice) before finally settling on one hence “Kombata.” Everything is done digitally so the roughs are laid out and paneled on the same page file as the final product. I don’t have a “pencils” stage in my process for this. However most elements on the page characters/backgrounds have their own layer so things are fairly adjustable. All my work is done in Manga Studio. Stephen Downer handled the colors and he brought something to these pages that is outside my skill set. Really excellent work. John J Hill makes lettering look easy too. (it’s not)
Chris Roberson’s script below:

PAGE ONE

PANEL ONE
This is a big panel, dominating the top of the page. in it, we see Valiant having just crashed through the skylight above edison rex’s penthouse hq in the middle of the city. Valiant is hovering in midair, very heroic, pointing a finger down at Edison Rex, who is standing on the floor with the warrior woman (still working on a good name for her) who is snarling up at Valiant, ready for a fight. Rex looks calm, like he expected this to happen.

TITLE: Presenting: The final showdown between VALIANT, Protector of Earth, and his archnemesis EDISON REX, Criminal Genius!

VALIANT/big: You must have KNOWN I would find your secret headquarters EVENTUALLY, Edison!

VALIANT/big: Now you’ll PAY for your crimes!

PANEL TWO
The warrior woman is attacking valiant, furious.

WARRIOR: Yaaaa!

PANEL THREE

Valiant has batted the warrior to one side, as though shooing away a fly. she’s hitting the ground. maybe we see her trajectory with motion lines?

SFX/hit: Thwack!

SFX/impact: krunch

PANEL FOUR
Rex is stepping over the body of the warrior woman on the floor, glancing down at her in apology as she struggles to sit back up.

REX: I’m sorry, Kombata, but can you excuse us for a moment?

REX: There’s something that Valiant and I need to discuss.

PANEL FIVE
Rex facing Valiant. implacable foes, archnemeses, equally matched.

REX: Well, it TOOK you long enough. Should I have left EASIER clues?

REX: Or is it just that you AREN’T that SMART?
